The duration of the load is a crucial parameter when the peak load in the case is relatively high compared to, for example, normal operating loads. Despite the magnitude of the load is large, its duration can be very short. In this situation, the inertia of the structure plays an important role, which may be a facilitating factor when studying the criticality of the case. These situations may have to be analyzed as dynamic events. Stressfield Oy has long-term experience in analyses that have involved, for example, objects colliding with each other or a pressure shock to a structure.
An explosion is an example of a sudden event. In such a situation, it may be necessary to resort to both flow simulations and structural strength calculations. We also have tools for utilizing structural dynamic calculations alone in explosion loading. In this case, the load in question can be determined in the analysis, for example, as an acceleration or pressure shock, depending on the nature of the event and the existing initial data and requirements.
